Capturing Moments with Artistry

Jamie Lee Faulkiner
My practice operates at the intersection of performance, material transformation, and constructed narrative. Working across ceramics, ink, textiles, and photography, I explore how identity is shaped through embodiment, ritual, and place. I am drawn to thresholds-between stage and studio, permanence and impermanence, discipline and vulnerability-and I use material processes to examine those liminal spaces.
Photography functions as both documentation and disruption within my work. It allows me to frame performance as object and object as performance, collapsing the boundary between lived experience and constructed image. Through lens-based work, I investigate gaze, agency, and the theatricality embedded in everyday environments.
Ceramics and textile processes ground my practice in tactility and repetition. These methods mirror both martial training and theatrical rehearsal-cyclical acts of refinement that transform raw material into disciplined form. My ink and conceptual drawings extend this inquiry into line as movement, gesture as memory, and shadow as psychological space.
Theatre remains foundational to my visual language. Performance informs how I construct composition, light, and spatial tension. Conversely, my studio practice informs how I inhabit roles-considering costume, gesture, and environment as sculptural elements.
Ultimately, my work centers on transformation: of material, of body, of narrative. I am interested in how disciplined systems—artistic, performative, or physical -create spaces for resilience, reinvention, and collective connection.
Capturing the beauty of the world around me gives me a sense of peace.
